Virginia Union University's
Dominique Mulero struck out six, but West Liberty University swept the Lady Panthers in a softball double-header 10-4 and 8-0 on Monday, March 7, at Panther Park in Richmond, Va.
In the opener, VUU's
Ericka Tiscareno held West Liberty in check until the fifth inning before giving up three runs. Mulero had singled in the second inning to drive in two runs.
In the nightcap, Virginia Union's
Brenda Reninga collected the only two hits the Lady Panthers would get as West Liberty limited VUU to two hits enroute to striking out 14.
"West Liberty is the defending two-time Mountain East Conference champion, so we saw how a champion plays," said VUU Head Softball Coach Fred Burroughs. "I've been preaching to the team since day-1, defense is what keeps you in the game or wins the game, and in both games we made critical errors to lose the games."
VUU is now 3-3 after the first week of play. The Lady Panthers will meet Bluefield State College at 1:00 p.m. in a double-header on Friday, March 11, at Panther Park in Richmond, Va.
