Lady Panthers Stage Dramatic Comeback in 61-60 Win

Trailing by five points with 17 seconds to play, the Virginia Union University women's basketball team scored six straight points to pull out a 61-60 win over Bluefield State University on Friday, December 2, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

The Lady Panthers were trailing 60-54 when Chris Alston stole the ball and scored on a layup.

Then, with 13 seconds left, Bluefield State called a timeout, but the Big Blue had no timeouts remaining and was assessed with a technical foul.

Ny Langley sank the two free throws, and VUU kept the ball.

Langley then took the inbounds pass, held the ball until she drove the lane with less than one second left on the clock.

A foul was called on Bluefield State, sending Langley back to the line with 0.6 seconds left.

Langley sank one of two free throws to give the Lady Panthers the 61-60 win.

"I was terrified and excited at the same time," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach Tierra Terry.  "Of course, we have to work on having a 13-point halftime lead and not maintaining it, but we held out, played hard, and won the game."

VUU's Chris Alston, who had not scored this season, scored a career-high 19 points in the win while Langley scored 17 points.

Virginia Union's Brittini Martin added 12 points in the win.

Virginia Union will now travel to Takoma Park, Md., to face Washington Adventist University at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10.
