VUU Downs Arch-Rival Virginia State 33-21

Virginia Union University's Jahkari Grant completed 16 of 25 passes for 277 yards and two touchdowns as the Panthers downed arch-rival Virginia State University 33-21 on Saturday, November 5, in Petersburg, Va.

The win raised VUU's record to 9-1 on the season and marked the most wins for a Panther football program since the 2007 team won nine regular-season games.

"It was a big rivalry game win for our squad on Saturday," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker.  "I was pleased with the performance, and it was a great way to rebound after our first loss of the season. The players performed awesome, and the coaches did a great job of putting the guys in position."

VUU's Jada Byers rushed 26 times for 132 yards, giving the sophomore a school-record 1,801 yards on the season.  The CIAA record is held by Richard Huntley, who rushed for 1,889 yards in 1995.

Virginia Union's John Jiles caught five passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

VUU, which entered the game ranked #5 in Super Region 2, will now wait for the NCAA playoff announcements on Sunday, November 13, to see when or if Virginia Union will play host to an NCAA playoff game.
