Rene's Double-Double Key to Lady Panthers Win

Virginia Union University's Naeva Rene recorded the first double-double of her college career by scoring 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as the Lady Panthers downed Shepherd University 69-49 on Sunday, November 27, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.

Rene, a junior transfer from The College of Saint Rose, had nine offensive rebounds in the win.

VUU's Ny Langley led the Lady Panthers with 13 points while teammate Darryn Zeigler added 12 points.

Virginia Union had five players reach double-figures as Brittini Martin and Jhakia Gist scored 10 points apiece.

"We had a great team effort as we had five people in double-digits," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach Tierra Terry said.  "Naeva had her first double-double, but two of the biggest stats that stuck out to me was that we had 14 assists and only six turnovers."

VUU is now 4-2 on the season and will travel to Princess Anne, Md., to face the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29.
