Virginia Union University's Ny Langley scored a game-high 19 points and seven rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers to a 58-38 win over Benedict College in the SIAC-CIAA Conference Challenge on Saturday, November 19, in Petersburg, Va.
This was the third straight win for the Lady Panthers, who now stand at 3-1 on the season.
The game was also the first time VUU held an opponent to less than 40 points since the Lady Panthers downed Winston-Salem State University 51-36 on December 14, 2019.
VUU's
Taniah Johnson added 12 points while dishing out eight assists in the win.
"We had full team effort and contagious enthusiasm in today's game," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach
Tierra Terry. "We started off the game slow, but we picked it up in the second quarter and that propelled us throughout the rest of the game. We are proud of our defensive effort and holding Benedict to under 40 points. Ny Langley and
Taniah Johnson had impressive offensive games, but
Taniah Johnson's eight assists and freshman Hailey Blackwell's five assists truly stuck out and show how much of a team game we played tonight. We have a quick bounce back as we prepare for a tough Catawba team on Tuesday."
VUU will now travel to Salisbury, N.C., to face Catawba University at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22. The game can be seen live online at vuusports.com.
