Virginia Union University's
Jahkari Grant tossed four touchdown passes as the Panthers moved to 5-0 on the season by downing Saint Augustine's University 69-0 on Saturday, October 1, at Willie Lanier Field in Hovey Stadium in Richmond, Va.
Grant completed 14 of 21 passes for 247 yards in the win.
Three different Panthers caught touchdown passes with
John Jiles,
James Jackson and
Larry Hackey all hauling in scoring passes.
VUU's
Jada Byers, who leads the nation in rushing and scoring, carried the ball 12 times for 114 yards and two touchdowns. Byers now has 891 yards on the season and is averaging 178.2 yards per game.
"It was exciting to see so many guys making plays," said VUU Head Football Coach Dr.
Alvin Parker. "The guys had a great week of practice, and the coaches did an excellent job of preparing them. Every week we have different players standing out. Our focus now is to have another good week as we prepare for Elizabeth City State."
The Panthers will now take on the Vikings of Elizabeth City State University for Homecoming 2022 at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, at Willie Lanier Field in Hovey Stadium.
