Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB FINAL: Lincoln 76, VUU 46

Virginia Union University's Taniah Johnson and Raven Williams came off the bench to combine for 11 points, but Lincoln University of Pennsylvania defeated the Lady Panthers 76-46 on Wednesday, January 15, in Lincoln University, Pa.

The win snapped an 11 game winning streak and marked only the third CIAA defeat in the last five years for the Lady Panthers.

"The game was a tale of two teams for the Lady Panthers," said VUU Head Women's Basketball Coach AnnMarie Gilbert.   "We scored the first basket and seemed to be on track for a good game.  But we quickly lost our rhythm.  It wasn't Lincoln's defense, we just did not play the Union Way.  It's the first game in a long time that both  our offense and defense was not efficient.  Lincoln's shooting was red hot as it seemed like they hit every shot. We could never get it going all night.  As a team, you'll have those nights, but the Lady Panthers usually don't.  We were led by Jasmine Carter with nine points and six rebounds.  Dy'Manee Royal chipped in eight points  and two rebounds.  Two bright spots off the bench were Raven Williams who came in quickly to score, as she finished with six points, three rebounds, and two steals.  Taniah Johnson added five points and one assist. "

The loss dropped VUU to 12-2 overall on the season and 4-1 in the CIAA.  Lincoln is now 15-3 overall and 5-1 in CIAA play.

Virginia Union now travels to Petersburg, Va., to face Virginia State University in the 2020 Freedom Classic at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18.
