Shareka McNeill tied her career high by scoring 29 points to lead the 13th-ranked Lady Panthers to a 109-49 win over Saint Augustine's University on Friday, January 4, in Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
This marked the third time this season that
Shareka McNeill has scored 29 points in a game.
VUU's
Ifunanya Okoye recorded her second straight double-double by scoring 13 points and grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.
Virginia Union's
Rejoice Spivey had a double-double of her own by scoring 15 points and dishing out 13 assists.
VUU's
Bianca Lockamy scored 14 points while
Nicole Floyd added 13 points in the win.
"What better way to start the new year than with a 109-point effort?" asked VUU Head Coach
AnnMarie Gilbert. "Having five or more players in double-figures is what we want to achieve offensively each game, along with holding teams to under 56 points. I'm proud of the way our team played today, especially the chemistry of our two freshman, Iffy Okoye and
Christina Deng. They played hard on both ends and gave us a huge lift off the bench."
The win raised VUU's record to 10-1 on the season. Saint Augustine's fell to 2-9.
Virginia Union continues the home stand when the Lady Panthers face Johnson C. Smith University at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 7, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
