Box Score Virginia Union University's Arron Baker scored a touchdown while teammate Jefferson Souza hit two field goals, but Long Island University-Post defeated the Panthers 42-13 in VUU's season opener on Saturday, September 2, in Brookfield, N.Y.

Baker, (6-0, 230 lb.) a senior from Belle Glade, Fla., put VUU in the lead 7-0 when he scored from three yards out with 5:59 left in the first quarter.  Baker would finish the day with 70 yards on 12 carries.

Souza, (6-1, 185 lb.) a freshman from Deerfield Park, Fla., hit his field goals from 35 and 29 yards out.

VUU was led on the ground by Tabyus Taylor's 121 yards on 20 carries.  Taylor (6-0, 250 lb.) is a freshman from Hopewell, Va.

Sophomore Erwin Faison, Jr. (6-2, 200 lb.) made his first start as the Panthers quarterback.  The Norfolk, Va., native completed 14 of 24 passes for 115 yards.

Redshirt sophomore Quantaye Battle (6-2, 210 lb., Baltimore, Md.) led the Panthers on defense with eight tackles.

VUU (0-1) will now face Newberry College in the Panthers' home opener at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, in Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
