VUU's
Dominique Roane led the Panthers with 11 tackles while
Tevin Gordon recorded 10 tackles. Â
The team recorded it's first safety of the year when VUU's
Ricardo Dixon blocked a Siena Heights punt into the Saints' end zone.
The Panthers' defense also recorded three interceptions on the day, one each by
Jabari Neeley,
Quamy Sparman and
Willie Bailey.
On the offensive side, VUU's
Lennworth Lennon caught five passes for 117 yards including one touchdown. Â Virginia Union's
Shawheem Dowdy connected on 13 of 24 passes for 248 yards, the most since
Kenneth Graham passed for 274 yards against Chowan in 2012.
VUU's
Troy Krepich hit a 39-yeard field goal at the end of the first half.
The win was also the first in the career of new VUU head coach
Mark James.
Virginia Union is now 1-0 while Siena Heights falls to 0-1. Â VUU now faces the University of Charleston at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, in Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
