Wearing all-black uniforms for the first time in school history, Virginia Union University was defeated by Winston-Salem State University 55-15 on Saturday, September 28, in Historic Hovey Field in Richmond, Va.
VUU's
Willie Bailey and
Jabari Neeley had 10 tackles apiece to lead the Panthers. Â Neeley also led the team with six solo tackles.
Virginia Union's
Kenneth Graham completed nine of 18 passes for 135 yards.
VUU's offense got on the board in the second quarter when
Wyman Powell hauled in a
Shawheem Dowdy pass from five yards out.
Union's other score came
Robert Jackson recovered a fumble and returned it 11 yards in the third quarter.
The loss dropped VUU to 0-4 on the season and 0-1 in the CIAA. Â Winston-Salem State is now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union now travels to Salisbury, N.C., to face Livingstone College on Saturday, October 5.
