WSSU Ends VUU Win Streak

Box Score Virginia Union University's Quentis Clark tossed his first career touchdown pass, but Winston-Salem State University halted the Panthers' season-opening win streak by downing VUU 67-16 on September 10 in Hovey Field.

Clark, a sophomore from San Diego, Cal., connected with junior Raymond Mack from 11 yards out with 12:10 left in the fourth quarter for his first touchdown.

VUU was led in rushing by Jerell Washington, who collected 50 yards on 16 carries.  Senior quarterback Cheston Hickman was 7-of-21 for 88 yards.

Freshman punter Paul Jones had seven punts for 277 yards (an average of 39.6 yards per punt), including a 50-yarder and two inside the 20-yard line.

The loss drops VUU to 2-1 on the season while Winston-Salem State is now 2-0.

VUU opens their 2011 CIAA conference schedule when they meet Lincoln University in Lincoln, Pa., on Saturday, September 17.
