Virginia Union University's men's 4x200 meter relay team of
Bryan Gurley,
Tremayne Banks,
Rashad Smith and
Deion Dickens broke the meet record when they won the event at the Captain's Invitational, held at Christpher Newport University in Newport News, Va., on January 20 and 21.
The team completed the event with a time of 1:30.47, eclipsing the record of 1:31.43, set by the University of North Carolina Wilmington on January 30, 2009.
The VUU men's 4x400 meter relay team of Dickens, Smith, Banks and Gurley also set a new school record by finishing second in that event with a time of 3:22.06.
VUU's
Jamaal Petty was third in the men's high jump with a leap of 2.00 meters.
Gurley also finished fifth in the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.97 seconds and then was seventh in the men's 200-meters with a time of 22.65.
Smith was third in the men's 200 meters with a time of 22.26 and was eighth in the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.01.
Banks was fifth in the men's 200 meters with a time of 22.58 and sixth in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.43.
Dickens was sixth in the men's 400 meters with a time of 50.97.

Marcus Dean was fourth in the men's triple jump with a leap of 13.93 meters.
VUU's
Devin Spencer was eighth in the men's shot put with a throw of 13.49 meters while teammate Wilkens Brutus was 10th with a toss of 13.10 meters.
