HAMPTON, VA - VUU linebacker Brandon Smith (SO/6-0/215/Virginia Beach, VA)was named CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week for his performance against Saint Paul's College over the weekend. Smith had a stellar defensive showing for the Panthers in their 28-3 win over SPC. Smith turned in 13 total tackles (9 solo, 4 assisted) including 6 for a loss of 29 yards, 3 sacks for a loss of 18 yards and one forced fumble. Smith has collected 6 total pass sacks this season, which ties him for 3rd in the NCAA Division II rankings.
The Panthers have gotten off to a 4-0 start this season, which is their best start since the 1991 season. The Panthers will return to action on Saturday, September 29th when they host the Falcons of Saint Augustine's College. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Hovey Field.
