Virginia Union University Athletics

The Burning Sands Alumni Football Club was formed in June 2011 and charged with the mission to support the Virginia Union University football program. While doing that, we have also supported other athletic programs at the university. We have provided $25,000 in scholarships to the football program each year. We provided the funds to build the new softball facility on campus, new weights for the weight room and the sideline benches for Hovey field on both sides. Each year at the conclusion of the spring game, we feed the team and coaches. The Annual Summer Football Youth Camp for the youth is sponsored by the VUU Football Coaches and The Burning Sands organization. We provided T-shirts and lunch for the youth throughout the camp week. Our signature fundraiser event is the Annual Golf Tournament, held every first Monday in August for the past three years.
 
Our goal is to give back by any means necessary to move the Athletic Department/Football Program forward and to assist our Alma Mater to become one of the top Division II programs in the country.
 
The Burning Sands Football Club is looking for new membership from all former football players, cheerleaders, coaches, and trainers to join us as we embark on a venture that promises to be one of the best organizations at VUU. We encourage other alumni athletes (basketball, track, volleyball, softball, band, etc.) to start your organization to support VUU as we did with the Burning Sands.  We must all work collaboratively to do all we can for our HBCU.
