Gurley Qualifies for the NCAA Outdoor Championships

Virginia Union University's Bryan Gurley became a qualifier for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Panthers earned 14 top-eight finishes, as the men's team finished sixth and women finished fourth in the 2010 CIAA Outdoor Championships, held at Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va.
 
Gurley crossed the 100M dash finish line in 10.52 second, to fall under the NCAA standard of 10.62. He finished 2nd in the event.
 
Earning a first-place finish, Geoffrey Langat won the 5,000 meter run at 16:33.14. He also finished fourth overall in the 1,500 meter run.
 
Joseph Johnson collected two medals, as he placed fifth in the javelin and sixth in the shot put.
 
Making an appearance in the finals, Jefferson Thorndique finished sixth in the 800 meter run, while Caesar Burton finished in seventh place in the javelin.
 
On the women's side, the Panthers had a strong showing in the field events.
Brittany Abraham paced the squad with a fifth-place performance in the triple jump and finished seventh in the long jump.
 
Earning the highest finish for the Panthers, Alaura Jones finished fourth in the high jump.
 
In the shot put, Shakeema Brown finished sixth and Alexandra Bentley trailed for seventh.
 
Lastly, Kristin Clay finish seventh, respectively, in the discus.
 
The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held on May 27, 2010 at Irwin Belk Complex in Charlotte, NC.
