MURFREESBORO, NC- August 29, 2009- The Lady Panthers of Virginia Union opened up its volleyball season at the hard fought Janet Collins Tournament hosted by Chowan University. Although the Lady Panthers were not victorious overall, they went 2-2, allowing their new freshmen to gain experience. VUU shut out Allen University 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-10) and also defeated Lincoln University 3-1 (25-22, 13-25, 25-23, 25-18). The Lady Panthers fell short to Chowan 0-3 (25-10, 25-14, 25-12) and St. Andrew’s College 0-3 (25-17, 25-11, 25-14).
Lashira Williams, the junior out of Cleveland, OH, was named to the All-Tournament Team.
VUU will open up their home schedule against Barton College on Tuesday, Sept 1st at 6:00pm in
 Barco-Stevens Hall.

The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Volleyball Coaches Association has selected its 2009 All-CIAA Volleyball Pre-Season Team.
 
VUU’s Lashira Williams was named to the All-CIAA Pre-Season Outside Hitter Team.  Williams was also featured in COBRA Magazine a volleyball publication that showcases African American players around the nation and tells their stories in hopes of inspiring younger black volleyball players who may not have immediate examples of success to reference in their communities.

6.3.09 | Women's Volleyball
Virginia Union is hosting its second annual volleyball camp June 22-25 at in Barco Stevens Gym


This camp is for high school girls who currently play volleyball or interested in trying out for their high school team. It is designed to teach the basic fundamentals of volleyball, as well as encourage sportsmanship and physical activity. 
Areas of concentration will include foot work, digs, setting, serving and conditioning. Members of the Virginia Union University Volleyball team, along with head coach Christina Taylor will serve as instructors.  The camp will run from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

The registration fee is $30 and t-shirts will be distributed to participants.

RICHMOND, VA – The VUU Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Lion of Lincoln University 3-1 on Tuesday evening, capturing their first non-conference victory of the season. The win lifts Virginia Union’s record to 6-13 overall. A dynamic duo of Lashira Williams and Stephanie Bell led VUU’s offensive efforts, each adding 11 kills. Williams added a game-high 16 digs in her efforts.
